Here is a nice story that happened at Gerval Farms in Quebec ! This is a good reason to put our mare SAVANNA (Afghan II X Staxi) as the horse of the month !

One of our clients had a mare (Wonda X Adanac) that was suppose to foal these days. She did foal at a farm 30 minutes from us on the 8th of March. BIG PROBLEM : the mare would not recognize the filly. They tried everything they could with the vet but the mare was really aggressive with her filly. So the guy called us yesterday evening (the filly was 12hres by then). He explained the problem and said he milked the mare and fed the filly a few times, but he could not feed her ever hours for 3 months !
At Gerval, we have a mare : SAVANNA WULF that had a colt 3 weeks before. Se has a very strong maternal instinct and tries time to time to kidnap babies from other mares . I immediately thought that she would accept the filly. So the owner brought the little thing at our farm in his car on his laps. She was very weak.
Savanna immediately liked her, but the filly was terrified since her own mother tried to kill her a few times. We started to give her milk in a bottle near Savanna's udder every hour for 3 hours. When I came back at the barn at 2 AM, the filly was feeding from the mare !
Savanna's son : Manhattan, became really jealous so Savanna found a way : she stays in middle of the stall and her son is on one side and the filly on the other side. Whenever a fight happens between the two, she separates them on each side of her.
We are really proud of Savanna and will take good care of her since she now has 2 foals to feed !
